This winter Harrods are bringing 13 Michelin stars to London all the way from Italy. Over the course of six months, six of the top Italian chefs will have a pop-up residency at Stelle di Stelle, Harrods’ latest 48-cover innovation on the ground floor next to their fine wines.
I went along to try December’s offering, which was Giorgio Pinchiorri and Annie Féolde’s 3 Michelin star Enoteca Pinchiorri, all the way from Florence. The meal started off a little strange with a very dry block of mature cheese paired with a slice of ham, I wasn’t so keen on this dish, however the glass of Ferrari Maximum that I sipped inbetween mouthfuls certainly helped to wash it down.
Thankfully the meal took a turn for the better, and every single dish was faultless. I don’t think I’ve ever had a meal like it. Special mentions have to go to the octopus cooked in olive oil with pumpkin cream, coffee pearls, and watercress sprouts, and the poached egg with cheese fondue and white alba truffle.
Each dish was sublime, the flavours dancing around my mouth alongside their wine pairings, and I left feeling quite sad that I had to go home. Do you think they would mind if I moved in for the whole of December?
Each chef has created a four-course menu, which can be paired with Italian wines and beers. Menus will be priced at £110 for lunch and £160 for dinner (£130 and £180 respectively, with matching drinks), with one lunch and two dinner sittings each day.
