5-Star Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa, Singapore

shangri la rasa sentosa room

If you’re looking for a luxury island getaway ideal for families that isn’t in the middle of nowhere, then the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa is for you. Just a 15 minute journey from the centre of Singapore City, Sentosa Island has something for everyone, whether you’re into jungle trekking, sunbathing on the beach, or theme parks.

Rasa Sentosa is surrounded by rainforest on one side and Siloso beach on the other, so you really do feel as though you’re in an island paradise, despite the Universal Studios theme park that was built on the island in 2010. However, it really is a family resort, so if you’re a couple of group of adults I’d suggest the W hotel or Movenpick.

The Shangri-La is brilliant for families of all ages, as there’s something there for every age, from toddlers to teens, while retaining the luxurious aspects for the adults. There’s a great kids club and swimming pool with various slides, and water sports and the Rasa Spa for the adults.

The rooms are bright and spacious, and you can choose one which overlooks the ocean, or one which overlooks the jungle (with this option you do get woken up to the sound of Monkeys calling).

What we were disappointed with was the food, I last visited the Rasa Sentosa before their refurb, and was disappointed to find that the food was not up to the standard it was previously. The breakfast buffet was delicious, but the other restaurants weren’t so impressive. Not to mention the names of the restaurants just do not sound particularly appetizing or fitting for the brand, ie; ‘casserole’ and ‘noodle’.

The staff was really friendly at all times and were more than happy to go out of their way to help us with anything. The other huge plus for the Shangri-La is that they actually own the part of Siloso beach that it sits on, which makes it the only hotel on the island to have it’s own private beach.

The Shangri-La is fantastic for families with teens and young children, and they have a great balance of modern luxury and fun, but definitely stay clear if you’re a couple of group of adults and wanting some glamour.

Rooms at the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa from £256 per night.
