If you’re going to eat out in Australia, you must have brunch. Australians are famous for their excellent brunches, Aussie Bill Granger even bought the concept to London with Granger & Co, which has been such a huge success that they have consistent queues out the door and round the corner.
Ootong & Lincoln is one of the best places in Western Australia for brunch. Situated in South Fremantle, it’s easily accessible via bus or car, and like most places in Perth, there’s free parking on the side street as it’s a residential area. It’s very hard to miss, it’s the building with huge colourful zebras painted onto the side of it.
It’s a very large restaurant so there were plenty of tables free, and they also have outside seating. Ootong & Lincoln is very much a ‘local’ haunt rather than a tourist destination, so don’t tell too many people about it! We started with fresh juices; they come in small glass jugs with a straw, and are very kitsch and incredibly tasty.
I ordered the decadent Chocolate Banana Pancakes with Caramel Sauce and Pecans, while my friend had the much healthier Sourdough Toast with Avocado and Rocket. The pancakes were light and fluffy, and the flavours rich and sweet. The combination of chocolate, banana, caramel and pecans was perfect, and worked so well with pancakes. The Sourdough Toast was also delicious, everything tasted so fresh!
