The chauffeur dropped us off at the entrance to the Shangri La in Sydney, and instantly the porters were there to help with our bags. We entered the stunning lobby with it’s beautiful fresh flower displays and impressive lighting choices, and after a swift check-in from the friendly reception staff were shown to our room.
Our Premier Grand Harbour View Room on the 22nd floor had sweeping 270 degree views of Sydney Harbour; the Opera House at the end of the bed, and the Harbour bridge from the living room and desk. The room gave us a comfortable 645sft of space, however this was hard to see from the cluttered configuration and too many sofas and chairs in the living room area. Despite this there was definitely enough room for two, and it was wonderful having such a separate entrance hall and corridor down to the bathroom and bedroom.
The bathroom had every amenity you could need, while the mini-bar was fully stocked and fresh fruit sat on the living room table. After taking a tour of the hotel, we went down to the spa and swimming pool. The whole hotel feels very much like other Shangri La hotels, and I suppose this is why we always come back. It’s the luxurious modern Asian aesthetic features, the scent of fresh flowers wafting through the halls, and the friendly smiling faces always happy to help if you need anything or get slightly lost.
The swimming pool is large enough for lengths, and next to it is a terrace area which was nice to sit out on in the sunshine sipping on a flat white. The facilities in the hotel are vast; there’s the peaceful and beautifully serene CHI Spa, the world-famous Altitude restaurant with more breathtaking views over the Harbour, and various other bars and restaurants throughout the restaurant.
Our stay at the Shangri La in Sydney was just like our stays in other Shangri La hotels – effortlessly relaxing in every way. Shangri La seem to have struck the perfect formula for providing excellent customer service combined with comfortable and luxurious hotels. We will be back!
